Maryland State Dental Association Member Lucky Winner of Maryland Dental Society Fall Fundraiser
Money raised will provide scholarships and emergency assistance for dental students.

At their final 2006 December meeting, the Maryland Dental Society (MDS) held the drawing to determine the winner of their Fall Fundraiser prize, a 50” Plasma Television. The name selected turned out to be that of a local colleague and member of the American Dental Association (ADA), Dr. Howard Fisher. Very excited by his fortunate win, Dr. Fisher was on hand to collect the prize award and to take a photograph with MDS members.

The Baltimore based periodontist came upon this good fortune when he purchased ten tickets during the installation of the Baltimore City Dental Society (BCDS) president earlier in the month. Fisher is also the Vice President of the BCDS. Members from the Maryland State Dental Association (MSDA), Baltimore City Dental Society, and Maryland Dental Society were in attendance for the swearing in ceremony of the new officers. Dr. Winifred J. Booker, President of the MDS, was there to support Dr. Byron Desbordes and Dr. Ricardo Kimbers, also members of the MDS and she just happened to have a few remaining Maryland Dental Society Fall Fundraiser tickets handy. Members from the Maryland State Dental Association and Baltimore City Dental Society were happy to support the scholarship initiative and many invested in the raffle. Since the September kick off of the fundraiser members from both the ADA and NDA also purchased tickets to support the MDS.

The MDS and MSDA have routinely worked together to advance and support the practice of dental medicine in the state of Maryland. In recent months the two dental organizations have found themselves more involved in alliance building that will only further serve to encourage membership and strengthen both organizations. The 2006 political initiatives, presidential installations, scholarship fundraisers, and State Dental Board elections were successful efforts largely due in part to the powerful collaborations that leaders at both the local and national levels continue to encourage. In the coming weeks, the Maryland Dental Society, Maryland State Dental Association and Maryland Academy of General Dentistry will join forces on Dentist Day in Annapolis and Give Kids a Smile Day in Baltimore. These key coalitions help to emphasize the common commitment of organized dentistry and give more fortitude to the collective voice of dental professionals in Maryland.

The Maryland Dental Society expresses their gratitude to everyone who invested in the Fall Fundraiser. The proceeds will provide scholarships and emergency assistance for dental students. Another 50” Plasma TV will be raffled for the MDS Spring Fundraiser and the money raised will again be allocated for scholarships. The corresponding secretary will send thank you notes to everyone who supported the fall endeavor, along with a flyer announcing the spring initiative with one free chance to win!
